Have you been feeling like everything is moving a little slower than you hoped for the past month or so? Something like, “I’ve done all the things, checked all the boxes, everything is in alignment - so why isn’t it working yet?”
That was Mars in Taurus. When a planet is in the opposite sign that it rules, (Mars rules Aries and Scorpio, Taurus is the opposite sign of Scorpio), it’s considered to be in it’s detriment. When a planet is in detriment, its influence is weaker and its natural qualities may not express themselves as effortlessly.
In other words, it’s been difficult to find our motivation for the past 6 weeks.
Mars is our motivation and drive, and Taurus likes everything to move nice and slow. You may have felt like you were taking longer than you “should” to get things done which is frustrating in itself - but remember, we were ALL experiencing this energy meaning clients and customers were feeling a little stuck and slow to move, too. So if things have been quiet, know it’s not not just you. It’s all part of the cycle and you can think of it as a little breathing room before things pick back up again.
Mars in Taurus slowed us down and gave us time to build a solid foundation one brick at a time. When Mars enters Gemini tomorrow, it’ll be time to move.
A Peek Behind the Curtain

For me, this manifested as a lack of motivation to be on social media, which was a little frustrating because 1) I had been gaining so much momentum and 2) Taurus is in my 11th house of Community, so I wanted to use this time to build up connections. But Mars rules my 5th house of Creativity and 10th house of Career and Public image… so looking back it makes sense why I felt so uninspired to create and even less inspired to be seen.
But I did make connections. Not surface level social media connections, but connections with people who I feel may be in this with me for the long haul. One is a social media marketer, the other an Ayurvedic nutrition coach. Both came into my world in perfect divine timing, both are skilled in things that I struggle with and both bring peace to my nervous system. Check, check, check.
My natal Mars is in Leo, which for me has manifested as a (toxic) tendency to want to go at everything alone. Mars in Leo is motivated to be the best, and I was trying to be the “best” by doing EVERYTHING myself, which I do not recommend. Because the only way we become the best at something is if we’re allowed to devote the majority of our time to it without getting distracted and pulled in a hundred different directions.
It’s like if Einstein spent time cleaning his home instead of studying quantum physics. I read this somewhere and it was a lightbulb moment for me. Not that I’m comparing myself to Einstein (although as a fellow Pisces midheaven and INFJ, I do look to him for inspiration), but it really drives the point home that none of us were meant to do this alone.
We have such a divine mission and were given such unique gifts… but we dull them by trying to do everything that everyone else is doing. So this is a new chapter for me to learn how to leverage other people for their zone of genius so that I can stay in mine. I’ll keep you updated on how it goes.
And on that note, let’s get to what you can expect when Mars enters Gemini.
Mars in Gemini
Gemini is a mutable air sign - dynamic, versatile and quick. So things are about to shift into full speed ahead.. or maybe full speed in a few different directions. We’ll collectively feel things begin to quicken, but be aware that while Mars will be in Gemini until September 4th, Mercury, the ruler of Gemini stations retrograde in the beginning of August. While it might be temping to keep moving fast, there will be a few weeks where it will be best for us all to take a step back and review. More on that later.
In general, this will be a great time to focus our energy on marketing, learning and connecting. Pitch ideas, negotiate deals and make connections with lots of people. Gemini loooooves social media, so you may feel more motivated to spend time on socials compared to the last 6 weeks. And if your business is marketing/communications based, things might really take off.
Mars in Gemini will give us the ability to adapt to new trends, so maybe it’s time to launch that new marketing campaign. There’s also going to be a surge of motivation to learn new things, so if you have a course or something you want to teach, now is the time to do it.
Bonus: If Mars is in Gemini in your natal chart, you’ll be moving through a Mars return. These happen every 1.5 - 2 years. This is the time to check in with how well you’re fueling your passion. If you’re aligned, this will feel great. If you’re not, you’re going to feel frustrated. Let that frustration be an indicator that it may be time for you to pivot. Reflect: Do you feel passionate about what you spend your time doing every day? Is there anything draining your energy that you may need to step away from?
